ADVOCACY
WE ADVOCATE FOR RI’S PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS.
Advocacy Matters
We believe every student in Rhode Island has a right to receive a high-quality public education that allows them to fulfill their unique potential.
A mix of different types of public schools across our state helps all schools get better, because every child can go to a school that meets their needs.
We also believe that parents have a right to decide which type of public school will best serve their child, whether that is a charter public school, a district public school, a statewide public school, or a career and technical school.
Strengthening our public school system also requires deepening investment in our public schools. We need to change policies and funding structures that are inequitable, and are preventing necessary resources from making their way to our classrooms, students, and teachers.
At the League, we advocate to advance policies that will help to strengthen public education across Rhode Island, including in our state’s charter public schools.
What We Advocate For
Priority #1
Support All Public School Students
As part of the public school system, charter public schools share a deep commitment to ensuring every public school student in Rhode Island has the resources and support they need to thrive.
Whether it is fighting for equitable funding for Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs), or supporting efforts to increase educator diversity, the League’s advocacy priorities will always include advocating on behalf of policies that would positively impact all public school students in the state.
Priority #2
Dismantle Charter Public School Inequities
Despite their proven track record of helping students reach their full potential in college, career, and beyond, and despite serving some of the highest-need students in the state, charter public schools are inequitably funded, particularly when it comes to facilities and transportation.
As such, the League’s advocacy priorities also include advocating on behalf of budgetary and policy changes that would ensure that charter public school students across the state receive equitable and fair funding.
Advocate with Us
We can’t do this without you. Every day, lawmakers across Rhode Island are making critical decisions about our state’s public education system, including charter public schools.
As they make those decisions, it’s up to us to ensure that they know the value of charter public schools in our state.
Can we count on you to advocate alongside us, and let your legislator know that YOU support RI’s charter public schools?
